How to accept an award

Over our 15+ years in the #events industry we have been privileged to be in the room to celebrate the best & brightest stars inside the profession. Something that has landed for us recently are the consistent mechanics of what makes folks stand out with their time at the microphone when called up to accept an #award.

In no particular order:

• Have the "I'm winning" #energy BEFORE you walk into the room! (Ladies - this one is for us!) If at all possible, be prepared with your remarks memorized, or at least, written down on your phone or cue card. If you are named as the winner then you need to OWN IT. This is not the time to be dismayed or bewildered by your (clear) success!
• Practice what you are going to say in advance so that tears don't distract you from your message! (We are a HUGE crier ourselves but what we've found to be true, at least for us...Is if we start bawling then it pulls focus from what we actually wanted to communicate) Being prepared with the speech rehearsed really helps here.
• Be gracious. There is more power & presence then in deep genuine acknowledgement & gratitude. SO classy!
• Don't be a sore loser.
• Make your 60 seconds count. 
• Clap loudly for others - even if they are your competitors. We are better together, friends. Let's elevate the industry together.
